成都玉林夜市:10美元吃遍全中国最好的街头美食

核心观点

Yulin is Chengdu's best neighborhood for authentic Sichuan street food. You can eat your way through an entire night market spread for under $10.

Chengdu doesn't have a single famous 'night market' like other Chinese cities. Its best food isn't packed into one tourist block — it's spread across the entire Yulin neighborhood.

And that's exactly why it's so good.

If you want real Sichuan street food that locals actually eat, skip the themed food streets and spend a few hours walking around Yulin. You'll eat better for less than $10 than you would at any tourist-facing restaurant in town.

Why Yulin is different

Most Chinese night markets you've seen on TikTok are built for tourists. Yulin is just a regular residential neighborhood that happens to have amazing food on every corner.

There's no entrance gate, no neon sign that says 'night market', no curated list of 'must-try' stalls. You just walk down any side street and you'll run into a dozen places smoking, grilling, boiling, and steaming something that smells incredible.

What to actually order

You don't need a guide. Just look for stalls packed with local college students and older locals sitting on tiny plastic stools.

Start with:

  • Grilled skewers: Order whatever looks good — meat, mushrooms, bread, even tofu skin. Most are 10-30 cents each.
  • Cold sweet noodles: Chewy noodles tossed in sesame paste and chili oil, perfect for a hot Chengdu evening.
  • Boiled fish in spicy oil: It looks intense, but it's the signature Chengdu dish. Ask for medium heat if you're sensitive.
  • Rabbit head: Yes, it's a thing. Yes, it's actually delicious. Don't overthink it.
  • Sweet water jelly: Soft, cold, and sweet — the perfect way to end a spicy night of eating.

The total for all of this, if you share with one person? About $8-10.

How to do Yulin the right way

Don't sit down at one restaurant for the whole night. That's not how this works. Eat a few skewers at one stall, walk two blocks, get a small bowl of noodles somewhere else, wander further for a grilled corn on the cob, and keep going until you're full.

Bring small bills, but most stalls now accept mobile payment even for foreigners. And don't worry about getting lost — the whole point is wandering.

The price comparison

This exact same spread of Sichuan street food in a Western city's Chinatown would cost $50+ per person. In Yulin, you're eating the authentic version at a fraction of the price.

If you're planning a Chengdu trip, don't just go to the panda base and the giant Buddha. Save an entire evening just for Yulin. It's the part of the trip you'll remember.

怎么做

  1. Head to Yulin West Road around 7 PM when stalls start setting up

  2. Start with grilled skewers and cold noodles from the first busy stall you see

  3. Order boiled fish in spicy oil if you can handle heat

  4. End with a bowl of sweet water jelly dessert to cut the spice

常见坑

  • Going to the tourist street food area near the main squares — it's overpriced

  • Only eating at stalls that have English menus — the best ones don't

  • Ordering too much at one stall — Yulin is for grazing, not one big meal
